Song vs. Song 53: "Freak on a Leash" vs. "Nookie"
There are some comparisons that are so lopsided that I can't even listen to the whole episode. Fred Durst is a piece of crap. I don't want to hear anyone say anything positive about him. The fact that there are people out there who could prefer him just doesn't make sense. I can't listen to them. It's not about snobbery. I used to be a music snob, but then I took the stick out of my butt and became a better person for it. So while some people disparage 'Nu Metal', they should probably just grow up.
There will always be fake people out there in the music industry. Durst is a fine example of a con man who got pretty far before people woke the fuck up. The other problem with this comparison is that I love Korn. Absolutely, and without reservation. I am the only person I know who loves Korn. That does not stop me from loving Korn. I wish they could continue to make great songs. Their last great song was 'Coming Undone', and it rocks so fucking hard I can't even handle it. I do have a couple of songs off 'Paradigm Shift', though. I also love 'Freak on a Leash', but I prefer what is lovingly referred to as the 'Freakin Bitch Mix'.
Part of the reason I'm the only one I know who likes Korn is that it wouldn't typically be enjoyed by my demographic. Which is old. 60 years old. I have a theory about why I like groups like Korn and Rammstein. It's a gift to be able to hear it and understand it. A lot of people listen to the stuff they liked in High School, and then never listen to anything different.
I am incredibly passionate about music. I'm absolutely intolerant of wrong opinions about music. Back in High School, I made fun of a girl who went to see a Kiss concert. She was telling me about the makeup and the flames and the blood, and I said 'It's a stage show. It's not music'. I still feel that way. If you tell me that you like Kiss I cannot be your friend. While I think Fred Durst is a waste of skin, he is Tom Cruise compared to Gene Simmons.
